Aaahhhhh, Moral Equivalency.

Which is more offensive? This?

Or This?

All this, because Australia is exercising the sovereign right to grant visas to asylum seekers from Papua.

So I guess this means that the Indonesians are not happy about this.

Amazing stuff, when not too long ago we were being caned for not granting visas.

The biggest question in my mind at the moment, though, is not about when we'll start rioting over the offence, but what will John Pilger have to say about all this.

Which is more offensive, neither, just lil drawings, the killing in the name of the Allah and his donkey was beyond offensive.

Well offensive on what level? Politicians are just fair game aren't they?

Ah Patung

I agree with you. As a matter of interest would be the situation if someone published a similiar cartoon of President SBY in Indonesia?

Politicians are fair game, but when you have them depicted as copulating dogs that might be a bit beyond polite.

Consider the Danish cartoons of Mohammed, the one above was not considered offensive enough by imams in Denmark, so they had to prod the outrage along with a picture of Mohammed being raped by a dog.

That got some serious attention.

Consider, also, that Indonesia is considered and Islamic country, and according to Islam, dogs, pigs, and infidels are all unclean. What in Dar ul Harb would be seen as merely a crude, rude drawing is seen as a mortal insult in muslim countries and outrageous provocation.

I guess up in Indonesia they will be waiting for a declaration of war.

I wouldn't bring religion into it that's all. Maybe 1 in 5 indonesians have any idea about this Dar ul Harb stuff and infidels being unclean, etc. Dogs and pigs are dirty everywhere. The Muhammad cartoons, *most* Indonesians just slept through that, couldn't have cared less.

But certainly they are impolite, Rakyat Merdeka is a nasty nationalist tabloid.

Noted with thanks, Pantung. :) I'm generalising, I realise.

I wouldn't have ever considered a picture like that, however, or pasting it all over the daily papers. It's not satire, or irony, but out and out provocation and offence.

Of course, from what I see here, the general populace so far says: So what?

It is very ugly soul that drew that Howard cartoon, especially compared to the donkey, totally agree there.

I'm aware my country and PM won't go on some insane physical to political rampage over it.

In that sense I don't care about the cartoon.

PS.

No offence, but just on dogs and pigs

Dogs and pigs arn't considered dirty in Australia. :) Dogs are actully deeply loved here, pigs arn't seen as dirty at all.

Also the cartoon about Mr Howard and Mr Downer is not the whole of Indo, we understand that here, it's a newspaper.

its not a relflection on Howard/Downer its a reflection on the newspaper, a genuine and pathetic attempt at insult. A reaction, free speech etc.

Sticks n stones n all that.

Yeah I know whidfyt, I was just thinking of something like "You pig", as an insult.

Oddly enough that newspaper actually published the Muhammad cartoons, on their website, they may just want to offend everyone.

Your wish is answered, sort of.
