And The Bleat Goes On.

Little Johnny Howard, aka the Man of Steel, is at it again.

What on earth has he done that is so outrageous and offensive to such a broad strata of society?

He said what a lot of people think:
"There's a small section of the Islamic population which is unwilling to integrate," he said.

"And I have said, generally, all migrants ... they have to integrate, and that means speaking English as quickly as possible, it means embracing Australian values and it also means making sure that no matter what the culture of the country from which they come might have been, Australia requires women to be treated fairly and equally and in the same fashion as men.

"And if any migrants that come into this country have a different view, they better get rid of that view very quickly.

As Sherene Hussain said tonight on TodayTonight (no transcript avail so I'll paraphrase), "What he is saying might seem reasonable enough, but muslims don't hear it that way."

So what do muslims hear? Well, unless he tones down his rhetoric, we might be looking at more riots like Cronulla. Of course, no doubt if we do have another bunch of drunken yobs picking on any unfortunate people who appear of middle eastern origin, I'm sure the Lebs will worry about the backlash before going on the rampage yet again.

I agree with the PM, but I expected a much more vocal and virulent attack on him by the media and other Islamic sympathetic groups. In fact the response has been rather weak (so far) perhaps they realise that he is right and instead will attack on another front.

The fact that John Howard's comments were made on talk-back radio, and not at some press event, is a fair indication of what he thinks of the media and their attack moppets. And then we have the Foreign Minister being an avid blog reader...

Found this quote quite good, considering the amount of "shame" we have educated into us about being Western.

If we open a quarrel between past and present, we shall find that we have lost the future.

Right Wing Death Bogan - I'm from the USA. I plead total ignorance. Did not know you had Muslim immigration in Australia (if that is where you are). Many in North America thought that you had strict immigration laws. I wanted to immigrate there a few years back - my mother had told me Australia was the last place left for Westerners to go for being able to live in a nation with common sense.

When did the break down in immigration laws occur? Did UN have anything to do with your move toward multiculturalism? Thanks. It is just a surprise that you all are dealing with Muslim colonists just like we are.

Thanks, Beach Girl

Beach Girl, we've had far too much muslim immigration over the last couple of decades.

We did have some over the years, but not to any great extent until about the 80s, when the floodgates were opened. There has been unrest between the Lebs and Skips for years.

Growing up in the outer western suburbs (and I mean way outer) even we knew there were differences there.

It's only really been since 9/11 that they've been seriously noisy and whining.

And they are only a really small percent of the population. There are around 300 000 or so. I'm not sure exactly, although we've just had a census and it will no doubt show more.

The usual problems of violence and other crimes have grown exponentially with this group.

Luckily for us, however, our national character is such that we don't have a whole lot of tolerance for troublemakers. Regardless of how our lefty pollies try to legislate said 'tolerance'.

I've noticed over the past few weeks just in my travels that people are starting to speak up more about the issues with muslims who refuse to integrate and expect everything their way.

This is good, and with John Howard, Alexander Downer and now Peter Costello commening publicly yet again on the non-integration of muslims in particular, it is becoming more acceptable to speak your mind again.

Theodore Roosevelt ... There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all. This is just as true of the man who puts "native" before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance. But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as any one else.

Wow, great to see you agre with the PM. He did, after all, say that 99% of Muslim Australians are perfectly integrated. 99%. Which is a higher percentage than Catholics or Jews or Calathumpians.

What a ringing endorsement. 99%. Shall I say it again? Shall I poor more lead into your Nazi ears? 99%.

Now you can go back to Cronulla beach and plonk your heads in the sand. And in case you hadn't noticed, your colleagues are now bashing Asians at Maroubra.

Enjoy your pogroms! Shalom aleikhem.
