Why take responsibility when you can whine?

Last night on the 7.30 Report, Red Kerry had in the studio a young lady, Iktimal Hage-Ali, who had participated in the PM's summit with local muslims.

She did not wear a hijab, had a very nice makeup job, and basically looked like any other young, attractive 21 year old girl. No problemo, you say.

I thought it might be interesting to watch see what she had to say, and what I heard was basically this: Terrorism is bad, naughty and we don't support it, but you really should make us feel better about ourselves.

Now I could be wrong, and maybe need batteries for my hearing aid, but it seemed to me to be a lot of the usual whingeing from the yoof of today about how hard done by they are in the scheme of things. They want to be included. Fine, well how about getting up and doing something proactive.

I will say, mind you, that Ms Hage-Ali is quite active in community activities as a quick google on her name will show you, and is an engaging and educated speaker.

I am wondering, though, how she would go under a taliban regime. Goodbye makeup, hello burlap. She wouldn't be allowed out of the house, let alone being in a studio in front of several cameras being interviewed by a man. Would she join the ranks of the professional women over in Afghanstan who committed suicide after having their lives ripped our from beneath them?
