The TMI Files. Let Them Eat Cake.
Magilla loves Astro Boy. No question about it - she has for years. For example, about 3 years ago at church during the kids' talk, the little tackers were asked who was their favourite person in the Bible.
She put her hand up and declared to all and sundry that Astro Boy is the best one in the Bible because he saves everyone.
Okay, now she's 7 and knows a bit more about the Bible and Astro's place in it (ie not.)
Anyway, for her birthday, I wanted to do an Astro Boy cake. Do you know how difficult it is to find any info about one? I'll throw a few links in at the end, so that you can see the dearth of cakes out there.
In the end, I just found a set of little figures and asked the Godmother to decorate at will. Since she's a whiz at cakes, especially for children, she did a fantastic job. The cake is a packet mix (White Wings chocolate on chocolate), with smarties and the Astro figures as decoration.
Damn it's a fine cake!
Or it was - there aren't even any crumbs left.

It's beautiful.
My hero was Felix the Cat.
Problem was that one Christmas I wanted Felix's bag of tricks.
That was a curly one for Santa...
somehow Santa got out of it (I think some explanation that there was only one bag of tricks and Felix needed it). Crikey, I was gullible then!
We have a 10 DVD box set of Astro Boy. Monkey loves it. He walks around the house humming the theme song. He even calls himself "Toby" at times, and says, "I'm not a robot".
I was tasked with birthday cake making today for Mr Squishy. I thought making a chocolate cake and sticking a candle in it would be enough, but no, I was told I had to decorate it.
All we had left was 4 tubes of that icing writing stuff, and they were 90% empty. I managed to draw a castle on the cake, then after I left the kitchen, Monkey came in, dragged the cake over to the edge of the bench and added his final touches with the icing paint. That included sticking his forearm into the cake. Ah well, it wasn't that good a picture anyway.
The cake was fantastic, if a little battered.
How cool, astro boy chibi dolls, love the cake & hope it went down well with the kids.
and yes Kae i remember felix the cat.
But,
Who remembers DoDo the Kid from Outer Space.
Oh God! how I love childrens' birthday cakes!!!
We went through a string of violent characters over the years, for Junior, of course.
One year I made Kenny. Everybody was presented with a knife so each was complicit in "O'migod, I killed Kenny!!!".
Bender the Robot, was another huge favourite. I must admit, Bender is a personal hero of mine.
The last character cake I made for my son was Cub, from Happy Tree Friends. If you don't know who that is, I implore you, from sickos everywhere, look them up. I even added Cubs' favourite utterance; "la, la, laaah!!!!
My favourite though, was the dinosaur for junior's Dinosaur Disco when he was seven. I even made a pile of dinosaur eggs to pile around the dinosaur shaped cake so that all the kids could take a few eggs home to "hatch"!
Although, the eyeball soup with fingers, and blood and guts, with blood clots and pus for dessert for his seventeenth, were very memorable!!!
Sorry for blowing my own horn in this thread about your daughter, but, I hasten to add, Astro Boy was my hero when I was your daughter's age. Although, my memories of him are all in Black and White. To this day, I would rather watch Astro Boy, and Doctor Olliphant in black and white.
Don't forget, Astro Boy lived in a suitcase until Dr Olliphant snapped him back together and sent him on his hero way!
BTW, I love the cake. Did it taste as good as it looked?
Yeah she definitely did a really good job on that cake, i thought you bought it from somewhere.
Happy birthday to Magilla.
That's so cool Madge (sorry, hehe) loves Astro Boy.
Be warned: Astro Boy and Voltron made bingbing into the man he is today!
Oi. One day before vacation... go easy!

Very cool cake.
I haven't seen Astro Boy for a few years now - watched it with my sons. I however am of older vintage, and recall Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds and Joe 90.
