The TMI Files. No Snogging Allowed.
Yesterday, I awoke with a bit of a sore throat. It felt all dry and swollen, and was an annoyance all day.
Today, it was worse. My glands are up and painful to touch, and it's become quite difficult to swallow. There's a bit of a cough, and my neck is aching, but not enough to incapacitate me.
However.... I took myself off to the quack, as I can't really afford to get seriously ill, and figured it best to get it sorted out before it got any worse.
So what did the doctor have to say? Septic throat.
Now I'm obviously not as sharp as I should be, since I asked him if it was contagious. Heh.He looked at me like I'd just been hit with the stupid stick and replied that I could still talk to people, but how did I think I'd caught it? I told him I didn't know, and his response was that I need to be careful - no kissykissy.
Needless to say I nearly fell off the chair laughing at that one. I told him I didn't even know what kissykissy was these days, so there's no worry there.
He laughed too, and sent me on my merry way with a prescription for ye olde antibiotics.
If anyone can toss me a clue as to how kissykissy works....
To quote Smash over at Indepundit:
This is the Best.Recruiting.Ad.Ever.
Not pc, and comes with a drink alert.
Somehow I think I'm a bit too old for the services, but that could be a good thing lol.
The TMI Files. Happy Farking Birthday.
You know you're on the right path when everything suddenly becomes all too hard.
Last week was a bit of a dog with a sick primate, but we got past that and the week started out okay.
Bummer it didn't stay that way.
So, monday, it's off to the doctor's to check a bit of a rash. Nothing too unusual, apply lotion for a few days and it'll be right.
Tuesday, it's off to the doctor's to check for possible cheek fracture after Magilla decided to see how sturdy the architraves are. (Hint: very bloody sturdy.
Wednesday, actually went okay, although no sleep as the rugrat is back in the habit of crawling into bed with me at odd hours, then expecting me to get up with her at the crack of dawn.
I know where Dawn can stick her crack. Grrrrr.
Thursday. Today I turn 39. I can live with that.
I can't live with: a) the eternal sunrise awakenings. b) having my day mapped out only to be thrown into disarray by the onset of gasp!
headlice. c) no time to study. d) trying to work with a whiny youngster bleating. e) de-lousing a child whose two settings are fast and fullspeed.
or f) all of the above.
I think it might be time for that drink I've been promising myself for the last 3 months!
The TMI Files. Life's Little Challenges.
The last week or so has been somewhat.... challenging.
Magilla came down with a dose of slapcheek, and the quack at the hospital told me that she needed to be isolated for 7-10 days. That was last saturday.
So I cancelled her gymnstics, daycare, all of my appointments for the week, and made an appointment for our regular gp on the monday.
On the monday, the gp felt that the quack was a bit overenthusiastic (in a nice way) and Magilla could have been in daycare this week anyway, but you get that. Since I'd cancelled everything, we got to hang out, and she was a bit clingy and whiny at times.
Apart from that, there was a bit of a crapfest on the personal front which got quite heated, and has left me alternately livid or frustrated.
You know when you are speaking english to someone and they just. don't. get it? It doesn't matter how many times and how many different ways you say it, it's not sinking in.
Oh, well. It all gets filed away under "Pyrrhic Victories."
So onward we go.
I had one day where I was so wound up I had to go stand under the shower for 45 minutes just to calm down. I've not been that angry for ages, and I like to think it's a testament to me that I didn't throw anything. Or break anything lol. I did think about it, though.
And I've done a lot of praying, too.
Which leads me to today.
I had an appointment this afternoon, and had been quite nervous all day, as I've just not been able to focus on work-related things this week. I'd already decided this morning which path to take: focus on work. Make money and make our lives somewhat easier. (Also buy Robert Spencer books to give away!)
As I was heading for the door, the bell went off. I was most surprised, as we rarely have unannounced visitors.
It was the pastor from where we go to church with a care package for us, and a card wishing Magilla well in her health, and blessings on both of us.
I was floored, and it's a nice reminder that not everyone is an arsehole. In fact, most are lovely people. Particularly the people at church.
And when I talk care package, I mean Care.
It's nice to be reminded of the goodness that is out there - it is just too often hidden behind the dross of day to day living, and usually overlooked.
And on a lighter note, Magilla broke me up with her reasoning for why I would not catch her illness: "Mummy has good breasts!"
I wasn't aware that mammaries were capable of fending of infections, but there you go!
And The Bleat Goes On.
Little Johnny Howard, aka the Man of Steel, is at it again.
What on earth has he done that is so
outrageous and offensive to such a broad strata
He said what a lot of people think:
"There's a small section of the Islamic population which is unwilling to integrate," he said.
"And I have said, generally, all migrants ... they have to integrate, and that means speaking English as quickly as possible, it means embracing Australian values and it also means making sure that no matter what the culture of the country from which they come might have been, Australia requires women to be treated fairly and equally and in the same fashion as men.
"And if any migrants that come into this country have a different view, they better get rid of that view very quickly.
As Sherene Hussain said tonight on TodayTonight (no transcript avail so I'll paraphrase), "What he is saying might seem reasonable enough, but muslims don't hear it that way."
So what do muslims hear? Well, unless he tones down his rhetoric,
we might be looking at more riots like Cronulla.
Of course, no doubt if we do have another bunch of drunken yobs picking on any unfortunate people who appear of middle eastern origin, I'm sure the Lebs
will worry about the backlash before going on the rampage
